Advertisemtnt

Collection of Data
↓
Organisation of Data
↓
Presentation of Data
↓
Analysis of Data
↓
Interpretation
↓
Decision Making
Meaning of Statistics – గణాంక శాస్త్రం అర్థం

Statistics అనే పదాన్ని సాధారణంగా రెండు అర్థాలలో ఉపయోగిస్తారు: Plural Sense మరియు Singular Sense.

STATISTICS
↓
Plural Sense – Numerical Data / Numerical Facts
Singular Sense – Statistical Methods / Science
1. Statistics in Plural Sense

Plural senseలో Statistics అంటే ఒక విషయం గురించి సేకరించిన numerical facts or numerical data.

Examples:

Population of India
Prices of commodities
Monthly income of households
Agricultural production
Employment figures
Students' marks
Birth and death figures

అంటే సంఖ్యల రూపంలో ఉన్న సమగ్ర సమాచారాన్ని plural senseలో Statistics అని అంటారు.

2. Statistics in Singular Sense

Singular senseలో Statistics అంటే dataను collect, organise, present, analyse మరియు interpret చేయడానికి ఉపయోగించే scientific methods.

Important Definition:

Statistics is a group of methods used to collect, analyze, present and interpret data and to make decisions.
Easy Memory:

Statistics = Data + Methods

Plural Sense → Numerical Facts
Singular Sense → Methods of dealing with Data
Why is Statistics Required?

Raw data సాధారణంగా పెద్ద పరిమాణంలో ఉండటం వల్ల దానిని నేరుగా పరిశీలించి conclusions తీసుకోవడం కష్టంగా ఉంటుంది. Statistics ద్వారా raw dataను tables, diagrams, graphs మరియు summary measures రూపంలోకి మార్చి సులభంగా అర్థం చేసుకోవచ్చు.

Example:

ఒక classలో 100 మంది students marksను ఒక్కొక్కటిగా పరిశీలించడం కంటే, వాటిని frequency tableగా organise చేసి, average మరియు graph ద్వారా చూపితే class performanceను సులభంగా అర్థం చేసుకోవచ్చు.
Major Stages in Statistics
Collection – Data సేకరణ
↓
Organisation – Dataను క్రమబద్ధీకరించడం
↓
Presentation – Tables / Diagrams / Graphs
↓
Analysis – Statistical Measures
↓
Interpretation – Conclusions
Exam Memory:

C → O → P → A → I

Collection → Organisation → Presentation → Analysis → Interpretation
Types of Statistics

Applied Statisticsను broadly రెండు ప్రధాన భాగాలుగా విభజించవచ్చు:

STATISTICS
↓
Descriptive Statistics
Inferential Statistics
1. Descriptive Statistics – వివరణాత్మక గణాంకాలు

Dataను organise, display మరియు describe చేయడానికి ఉపయోగించే statistical methodsను Descriptive Statistics అంటారు.

Descriptive Statistics mainly uses:

Tables
Graphs
Charts
Frequency Distributions
Summary Measures such as Averages

ఉదాహరణకు ఒక classలో students marksను frequency tableలో చూపించడం, average markను calculate చేయడం లేదా marksను graph ద్వారా చూపించడం Descriptive Statisticsకు ఉదాహరణలు.

Key Point:

Descriptive Statistics → Available dataను summarise and describe చేస్తుంది.
2. Inferential Statistics – అనుమానాత్మక గణాంకాలు

Population మొత్తాన్ని పరిశీలించకుండా, దాని నుండి తీసుకున్న sample ఆధారంగా population గురించి conclusions, estimates, predictions లేదా decisions చేయడానికి ఉపయోగించే methodsను Inferential Statistics అంటారు.

Population
↓
Select a Sample
↓
Study the Sample
↓
Inference about Population
Example:

ఒక రాష్ట్రంలోని ప్రతి householdను survey చేయకుండా కొన్ని householdsను sampleగా select చేసి, వాటి ఆధారంగా మొత్తం populationకు సంబంధించిన characteristicsను estimate చేయడం.
Descriptive vs Inferential Statistics
Basis Descriptive Statistics Inferential Statistics
Purpose Dataను describe మరియు summarise చేయడం Sample ఆధారంగా population గురించి conclusions తీసుకోవడం
Focus Observed / available data Population characteristics
Methods Tables, graphs, averages and summary measures Estimation, prediction and statistical inference
Example 100 students average marks calculate చేయడం Sample students ఆధారంగా all students performance estimate చేయడం
One-Line Memory:

Descriptive → Describe the Data

Inferential → Sample నుండి Populationకు Infer
Basic Statistical Terms
Data – డేటా

Statistical investigation కోసం సేకరించిన informationను Data అంటారు.

Population – సమగ్ర సమూహం

ఒక statistical investigationలో information కావలసిన all individuals, objects or units కలిపి Population అంటారు.

Example:

ఒక universityలోని students performanceను study చేస్తున్నప్పుడు ఆ universityలోని all students = Population.
Sample – నమూనా

Population నుండి investigation కోసం select చేసిన కొంత భాగాన్ని Sample అంటారు.

Example:

Universityలో 10,000 students ఉన్నప్పుడు వారిలో 500 మందిని study కోసం select చేస్తే:

10,000 Students → Population
500 Selected Students → Sample
Observation

Data setలో record చేసిన ప్రతి individual valueను Observation అంటారు.

Variable

ఒక individual, object, place లేదా time period నుండి మరొకదానికి value మారగల characteristicను Variable అంటారు.

Examples of Variables:

Age
Income
Height
Weight
Marks
Price
Production
Importance and Uses of Statistics

Statistics ఆధునిక సమాజంలో అనేక రంగాల్లో ఉపయోగించబడుతుంది. Statistical informationను ఉపయోగించి complex phenomenaను అర్థం చేసుకోవడం, comparisons చేయడం మరియు decisions తీసుకోవడం సాధ్యమవుతుంది.

Statistics and Economics

Economicsలో statistical data మరియు statistical techniquesకు చాలా ప్రాముఖ్యత ఉంది. Prices, wages, production, income మరియు distribution of wealth వంటి economic variablesను అధ్యయనం చేయడానికి Statistics ఉపయోగపడుతుంది.

Important Statistical Tools used in Economics:

Index Numbers
Time Series Analysis
Estimation

Functions of Statistics
Main Functions:

1. Collection of Data
2. Organisation of Data
3. Presentation of Data
4. Simplification of Complex Data
5. Comparison
6. Analysis of Data
7. Interpretation
8. Planning and Policy Making
9. Forecasting
10. Decision Making
Limitations of Statistics

Statisticsకు విస్తృతమైన applications ఉన్నప్పటికీ కొన్ని ముఖ్యమైన limitations ఉన్నాయి.

1. Statistics Deals with Aggregates

Statistics సాధారణంగా aggregate of factsను study చేస్తుంది. Individual itemకు statistical studyలో అదే విధమైన ప్రాధాన్యత ఉండదు.

2. Statistics Mainly Deals with Quantitative Data

Statistics ప్రధానంగా numerical లేదా quantitatively measurable dataతో వ్యవహరిస్తుంది.

Honesty, beauty, intelligence వంటి qualitative characteristicsను నేరుగా numerical formలో study చేయడం సాధ్యం కాదు. అయితే వాటిని measurable formలోకి మార్చగలిగితే statistical techniquesను ఉపయోగించవచ్చు.

Example:

Intelligenceను directly measure చేయడం కష్టం.

కానీ examination marks లేదా test scores ద్వారా దానిని quantitative formలో study చేయవచ్చు.
3. Statistical Laws are True Only on Average

Mathematical లేదా physical lawsలాగా statistical laws ఎల్లప్పుడూ exactగా ఉండవు. Statistical conclusions సాధారణంగా on average మాత్రమే వర్తిస్తాయి.

4. Statistics Can be Misused

Statistical methodsను సరైన knowledge లేకుండా ఉపయోగిస్తే wrong conclusionsకు దారితీయవచ్చు. Wrong figures లేదా inappropriate comparisons ద్వారా Statisticsను misuse చేయవచ్చు.

5. Statistics is Only One Method of Studying a Problem

Statistical methods మాత్రమే ప్రతి problemకు complete solution ఇవ్వవు. Statistical resultsను ఇతర relevant facts మరియు background informationతో కలిపి interpret చేయాలి.

6. Wrong Data Leads to Wrong Conclusions

Incorrect, incomplete లేదా inappropriate data ఆధారంగా statistical analysis చేస్తే result కూడా misleadingగా ఉండవచ్చు.

Important Exam Trap:

Statistics does NOT generally study an isolated individual fact.

Statistics mainly deals with aggregates of facts.
