APPSC Exam Traps
Respondents నుండి required information పొందడానికి రూపొందించిన systematic list of questionsను Questionnaire అంటారు.
A questionnaire contains a set of questions designed to obtain information from respondents.
Respondent himself/herself answers the questions.
QUESTIONNAIRE
→ Respondent fills it
Mailed Questionnaire Method.
Schedule కూడా information collection కోసం రూపొందించిన set/list of questions.
Questions are asked by an enumerator/interviewer, and the answers given by the respondent are recorded by the enumerator.
SCHEDULE
→ Enumerator fills it
| Basis | Questionnaire | Schedule |
|---|---|---|
| Who fills it? | Respondent | Enumerator / Interviewer |
| Personal presence | Generally not essential | Enumerator interacts with respondent |
| Questions asked by | Respondent reads them | Enumerator asks them |
| Clarification | Immediate clarification may be difficult | Enumerator can explain questions |
| Literacy | Self-administered questionnaire generally requires respondent to understand the questions | Can be used even when respondent cannot fill the form personally |
| Cost | Generally lower | Generally higher |
| Time & Manpower | Less field manpower | More field manpower |
| Response problem | Non-response may be greater | Personal contact can improve response |
| Recording | Respondent records answers | Enumerator records answers |
Difference questions
Questionnaire → Respondent fills
Schedule → Enumerator fills
Survey qualityలో questionnaire design చాలా important. Poorly worded questions incorrect or misleading informationకు దారితీయవచ్చు.
2. Questions should be clear.
Different interpretations
3. Questions should be precise.
4. Questions should be relevant.
5. Avoid ambiguous questions.
Questionకు multiple meanings ఉండకూడదు.
6. Avoid leading questions.
7. Avoid unnecessary questions.
Questionnaire unnecessarily lengthy
8. Response options should be appropriate.
Possible answersను logically cover చేయాలి.
Respondent తన answerను own wordsలో freely ఇవ్వగలిగే questionsను Open-ended Questions అంటారు.
“What are the major problems faced by farmers in your area?”
No fixed answer alternatives are supplied.
Closed-ended Question.
What is your employment status?
A) Employed
B) Unemployed
C) Student
D) Other
| Open-Ended | Closed-Ended |
|---|---|
| Free response | Fixed alternatives |
| Respondent answers in own words | Respondent selects from options |
| May provide detailed information | Easier to classify and tabulate |
| Coding may be difficult | Coding comparatively easy |
| More variation in answers | More standardized answers |
Only two possible response alternatives ఉన్న questionsను Dichotomous or Two-way Questions అంటారు.
Do you have a bank account?
□ Yes
□ No
Two alternatives
→ Dichotomous / Two-way Question
More than two predefined alternatives
How often do you use the Internet?
A) Daily
B) Weekly
C) Occasionally
D) Never
Question wordingకు more than one interpretation possible అయితే అది Ambiguous Question.
“Do you regularly use computers?”
“How many days in a week do you use a computer?”
0 days / 1–2 days / 3–4 days / 5–7 days
“Don't you agree that the new scheme is beneficial?”
“How would you rate the new scheme?”
Very Beneficial / Beneficial / Neutral / Not Beneficial
Age:
10–20
20–30
30–40
10–19
20–29
30–39
Large geographical areaలో comparatively lower field costతో data collect చేయవచ్చు.
Less Field Manpower:
Wide Coverage:
Dispersed respondentsకు questionnaires పంపవచ్చు.
Standard Questions:
All respondentsకు same set of questions ఇవ్వవచ్చు.
Respondent Convenience:
Respondent తనకు convenient timeలో answer చేయగలడు.
Some respondents questionnaire return
Misinterpretation:
Incomplete Answers:
Some questions unanswered
Self-administration Difficulty:
No Direct Verification:
Investigator respondentను personally observe చేయకపోవచ్చు.
Enumerator respondentతో directly interact చేస్తాడు.
Clarification:
Difficult questionను explain చేయవచ్చు.
Better Completion:
Useful where self-filling is difficult:
Better Control:
Time Consuming:
Large Manpower:
Large surveyలో many enumerators అవసరం.
Interviewer Influence:
Enumerator behaviour or wording responseను influence చేసే అవకాశం ఉంటుంది.
Training Required:
Uniform data collection కోసం enumeratorsకు proper training అవసరం.
Selected respondent surveyకు response ఇవ్వకపోతే Non-response Error ఏర్పడవచ్చు.
1,000 personsకు questionnaires పంపారు.
Only 650 persons responded.
Remaining 350 → Non-respondents
Completed questionnaires received = 650
Response Rate:
= (650 / 1000) × 100
= 65%
Using the same data:
= 100 − 65
= 35%
Response % + Non-response % = 100%
Response rate = 75%
Number of responses:
Therefore:
Selected person does not respond
→ Non-response Error
Selected person responds but gives incorrect answer
→ Response Error
